Domestic Violence Survivor Program
Our Domestic Violence Survivor Program includes free access to an attorney, court advocate, and case manager to assist survivors because going to court for domestic violence can be terrifying and no one should have to do that alone.
The case manager provides evidence-based cognitive processing therapy and assists survivors with accessing multiple services and resources, psycho-education regarding domestic violence, and trauma-focused treatment. Our staff attorney and court advocate work together to 1) educate the survivor on the legal system processes, 2) to prepare court documents for civil and criminal cases, and 3) accompany the survivor to all court hearings associated with their case.
Our team typically handle 3-4 new cases a month, as each case involves multiple visits, research, and court time. We welcome everyone and provide free services; if someone is being abused, we help them. Typically, however, our clients are low-income women who have not been able to find help at other agencies. In 2024, our Domestic Violence Survivor Program served 55 women.
These are challenging times for small nonprofits, especially those working in social services with vulnerable populations, particularly domestic violence survivors from marginalized groups. We recently had to make the incredibly tough decision to suspend this program due to funding freezes caused by the current political climate that is directly affecting social services for vulnerable populations, particularly domestic violence survivors from marginalized groups.
